Diabetic retinopathy is a complication of diabetes that affects the blood vessels in the retina, leading to vision problems and even blindness.
It occurs when high levels of blood sugar damage the small blood vessels in the retina, causing them to leak or become blocked.
Treatment may involve intra-vitreal injection, laser therapy or surgery.
